Dialysis or Kidney Transplant?
When your kidneys collapse, you need one of two treatments to stay alive: a kidney transplant or dialysis treatment. Many patients come to the transplant center believing the myth that they can live forever with dialysis, but that is simply not true. Although dialysis is a "life-saving" treatment, it does only about 10% of the work a healthy kidney can do. And due to its effect on the body, dialysis can cause medical problems such as:anemia, bone diseases, high blood pressure, nervous system injury, infections, nausea and vomiting, headaches, muscle cramps.
As a result, the average life of a dialysis patient is usually about 5 years.
